Live Oak Sports Overview
Sports offered at Live Oak include cross-country, volleyball, basketball, and futsal. These sports are open to students in grades 5-8, with teams at both the junior varsity and varsity levels. Each team is scheduled to practice twice a week. Students are placed on a team that best suits their skill level and no student is ever cut from a team. The main emphasis during after-school sports is on the development of skills that students need to have success within the particular sport. Other areas of focus include the teaching of good sportsmanship, the roles of a good teammate, leadership development, and how athletics can provide a positive opportunity for social and group interaction.
During the fall season, Live Oak offers both cross-country and volleyball; in winter, basketball; and in spring, futsal. Live Oak sports teams compete against squads from other comparable San Francisco independent schools.
After-school sports at Live Oak may require some parental assistance, mainly around coordination of rides to and from games. More importantly, parents are always encouraged to attend games and cheer on the efforts of our young athletes.
