Inside Live Oak » Holly Horton

It is with great sadness that Live Oak shares the news that Holly Horton, our beloved Head of School, passed away on Monday, December 7th. Even in her last hours, Holly was enjoying the messages and stories from the Live Oak community. On Friday from her doorstep, the fifth graders sang the school song to Holly and she grinned from ear to ear. The third graders sang to her again on Monday. Holly’s family continues to be amazed by the outpouring of love from Live Oak in these last few months. Holly has felt held by us as we have by her.

In this difficult time, Live Oak will remain a place where students, faculty, and parents find support in their sadness and comforting routines to help them feel safe and grounded. The school will remain open, while providing counseling to our community and celebrating Holly's vision for Live Oak.

In lieu of flowers, Holly wished to invite contributions to Live Oak School to support tuition assistance. It is so moving and so fitting that this was her request. This is yet another way that Holly will make a lasting impact on our wonderful school. To honor Holly’s extraordinary leadership as Head of School from 2002-2009, the Board of Trustees of Live Oak School will establish the Holly Horton Scholarship Endowment Fund. Contributions may be sent to Live Oak School, 1555 Mariposa Street, San Francisco, CA 94107. You may also donate online.

We are deeply appreciative of the compassion and vision that define the community of Live Oak School. We know that our students are better for it.
