We know that students learn best in a diverse educational environment, one that welcomes children and adults from every race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic circumstance, and gender expression. We also know that a truly diverse community is only successful when it comes with a deep commitment to inclusivity. Diversity and inclusion are core values of Live Oak School; they are reflected in our curriculum, our community, and our guiding principles. Simply put, we are dedicated to ensuring that every student who walks through our doors has an equal sense of belonging, a voice that is heard and respected, and a welcoming sense of place.
The whole student body is encouraged to participate in cross-grade conversations about identity, diversity, and equity. These conversations are supported through a variety of programs including affinity groves; affinity groups for LGBT families and families of color; a middle school gender and sexuality alliance group; on common ground, a safe space for students of color to address specific issues they encounter; and more. There are a number of parent enrichment events throughout the year designed to expand our collective knowledge around diversity and inclusion.
