Bringing it Back to School
In the weeks leading up to the opening of Live Oak’s 22-23 school year, the faculty and administrative team took various opportunities to take stock of the individual experiences and expertise we bring to the benefit of our school community and programs. In one account we recorded 613 years of experience at 154 different schools with advanced degrees in 10 different areas of study.
On Wednesday, the potential and promise at Live Oak School expanded exponentially as our students returned with everything they bring to our school community! Our students began contributing to our collective growth as soon as the doors opened on our first day!
Kindergartners taught each other how to coax a guinea pig from its hideout and where to spot a camouflaged frog.
First graders led new classmates through the lunch clean up procedure, reminding friends to always say thank you at the dish window.
Second graders shared their brain power, reading clues to their classmates for the classroom scavenger hunt: mechanical pencil sharpener, Live Oak Expectations, plants.
Third graders all have things they don’t want to be known for this year. So, they cheered each other on as they tossed those identities in the bin!
Fourth graders asked probing questions about the events of the year that peaked their collective curiosity, “When will we go to Fort Ross?”
Venn diagrams in fifth grade revealed classmates' similarities and differences in their identities.
Sixth graders shared strategies for mastering the combination lock and retrieving a desperately needed snack from the locker: 3 times right, 2 times left, 1 time right.
Seventh graders explored their core values and built a network of connection and commitment.
Eighth graders brainstormed strategies to make their kindergarten buddies feel more comfortable.
This is just our beginning and we are just setting the stage. Live Oak’s invitation and expectation for our students to participate fully ensures our classrooms are full of new, developing, and diverse perspectives. We learn and grow with and from one another. What we bring together creates our boundless potential. Thanks for bringing it back to school!
