Live Oak Welcomes Maurice Hill to Admissions Team

In a variety of roles over his career in education, Maurice’s passion for personal growth, collaboration, student support, and a willingness to push the boundaries toward creative admissions strategies set him apart.

“It was clear that equity, opportunity, and joy were not just words on a website; they are part of the institution's fabric,” Maurice observed after spending a day on campus during the interview process. “During my visit, I witnessed the smiles on faces when I entered classrooms; the attention and engagement of students listening to their peer present on Ronald McNair; the warmth of the faculty as they interacted with each other and students. In the spirit of collaboration, care, belonging, and intention, I'm looking forward to being part of a community that wants to see Live Oak be the best version of itself as we think about the current and next generation of Live Oak students.” 

Most recently, Maurice served as the Dean of Upper School Enrollment with Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, MI where he led an admissions team of seven, helping to increase applications over 25% year over year. Prior to that, Maurice spearheaded the expansion of Beaver Country Day School’s (Chestnut Hill, MA) admissions operations, including a more engaging virtual tour experience and a more equitable application review process as the Associate Director of Admission and Financial Aid. Generating over $30,000 in funding, Maurice also created an overnight college tour program for high school students while serving as the Associate Director of College Counseling at Worcester Academy (Worcester, MA). 

Maurice’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends beyond the admissions office; he has been a dorm parent and an affinity group advisor. In addition to his current position with Cranbrook Schools, Maurice is the co-advisor of the African American Awareness Association group. He served as the Men of Color advisor while working as the Associate Director of Multicultural Admissions at Kenyon College prior to helping advise and empower students as the Students of Color Group Advisor at Worcester Academy. He further demonstrated his support of students over two years as a dorm parent and Black Student Union advisor at Walnut Hill School for the Arts (Natick, MA). 

A graduate of Wesleyan University, Maurice earned his BA in Sociology and African American Studies prior to earning his MA in Private School Leadership through the Klingenstein Center at Teachers College, Columbia University.   

Now that he has officially begun, Maurice is eager to acclimate himself to the Live Oak community, saying, “I look forward to listening to and learning from current students, staff, faculty, and families who love Live Oak. Every member of the Live Oak community has their own stories and experiences with the school, and I want to understand the breadth of those experiences. In my listening and learning, I want to ensure that Live Oak's admissions process mirrors those experiences." 

At every step, Maurice has maintained a vision toward improving admissions processes to bring quality education opportunities to more young learners. His strategic experience, passion for relationship building, and eye toward growth in all facets will make him a valuable asset to the Live Oak community.
