Mission-Minded Learning

Before Live Oak students can apply their learning and effect real change in their communities, Live Oak faculty build intentional systems that bridge academic concepts with real-world application. Middle school faculty across disciplines teach their students how to ask probing questions of themselves and the world around them. Problems to be solved, perspectives to be gained, action to be taken–all of these outcomes start first with our faculty building their curriculum to support deep thinking and learning, coupled with a keen awareness of their students’ ability to leave a positive impact.
Earlier this week, a group of Live Oak middle school faculty articulated how they accomplish this goal in their respective classrooms. Check out the recording of their presentations with the middle school perspective of “Academic Excellence and Teaching Social Responsibility.” In the video, you will hear from the following faculty members and administrators:

Tanya Susoev, Associate Head of School
Asha Weber, Middle School Division Director
Lianna Kali, Director of Instructional Innovation
Leah Vanevenhoven, Middle School Math Teacher
Jame Murray, Middle School Humanities Teacher
Renata Martin, Changemaker Program Coordinator
Virginia Paik, Head of School
